Nik Lutz
Nik came to Australia as a young boy, with the dream that he would one day own a pushbike.
Not long afterwards, he commenced work towards a new ambition: to become a member of the dental industry. A friend of Nik’s father was a dentist, and he convinced young Nik that dentistry was a noble profession, one well worth becoming involved in.
Nik trained in Sydney at the United Dental Hospital. For 7 years he worked in Liverpool with Peter Benson and then for another seven years with Laurie Pike. He arrived in Canberra in 1973 and set up the International Dental Lab with two other dental technicians, each of whom, like Nik, had been born overseas.
He founded Lutz Dental Labs in 1979. Originally the practice was located in Belconnen, in rooms that were adequate, but not purpose built. In 1998 he bought the premises in Deakin, and was able to design and set the laboratory up the way he wanted it to be.
Nik takes his professional development seriously! He has completed courses run by LVI, Willie Geller, Bill McHorris and many others.
He lives 50 clicks out of town on a farm and is thoroughly enjoying this rural retreat. When not creating beautiful dental ceramics, Nik can often be found fly fishing.
By the way: in case you were wondering, Nik did achieve his original goal…
